Message from Consortio Security board

Consortio Security Newsletter January 2021

Dear Colleagues,

Firstly Happy New Year and we wish you and your families all the best for 2021

With the start of a new year, it provides us the ability to reset and focus on the challenges ahead. There are many objectives for 2021, these include further investment into training and developing further online resources to help with career path goals, a review of our SmartTask system to enable all stakeholders to have access to information about their working patterns, place of work, and safety information, we also intend to review our uniform, to ensure it still provides, the correct “First impression” and finally, for now, the further development of the Centralus Consortio Staff benefits platform, information on this can be found further down in the newsletter.

Please remember to work and stay safe.

Kind regards

Consortio Board

Consortio Security employee of the month

November 2020 Nominations:

Officer Clarence Mair nomination by Operations Manager P Nicholson:  Whilst on duty Officer Mair was called upon to deal with a self-harm incident.  Officer Mair responded quickly and relied on his many years of experience and training to deal with the incident in a urgent and professional manner, preventing further injuries and immediate escalation to the emergency services.  Officer Mair continued to provide first aid and reassurance until the paramedics arrived on site and took over control of the incident.  Officer Mair was steadfast in his approach and there is no doubt the situation could have been a lot worse without his involvement.  Well done Clarence, great work and thank you for your support.

Officer Yussuf Nur nominated by Operations Manager P Nicholson:  Whilst on shift Officer Nur found a gate that had been left insecure and unserviceable.  Officer Nur contacted the engineer on call who advised him to leave the gates open. Officer Nur identified the risks in following this instruction and escalated the issue to the site Management Team.  Site Team responded, attended site and helped Officer Nur secure the premises.  Officer Nur was right to escalate further, having the morale courage to challenge an instruction he knew to be wrong and knew would leave site vulnerable.  A fundamental part of a Security Officer role is to ensure protection of assets on site and Officer Nur ensured Consortio Security delivered on this.  Thank you Yussuf and thank you for your continued service and support.

December 2020 Nominations: None

Both Clarence and Yussuf will receive a compliment letter from COO Nathan Potter, a special certificate and also a shopping voucher. Congratulations!

Equality and Diversity

Dear Colleague,

We have recently seen cases of racial discrimination across the media, which prompted the Black Lives Matter protests. We have also had a recent case where an individual decided it was ok to use inappropriate comments, within the workplace.

It thought it an appropriate time to highlight our stance and re-enforce our position as an Equal Opportunities employer.

So what is Equality and Diversity? Equality and diversity in the workplace, means a lot of things. Its’s about respecting our staff for their individual age, gender, race cultural background, career experience, skills, beliefs (religious and philosophical). Sexual orientation and more. Some people think that diversity is about ticking boxes and nothing more. Let me tell you, it’s a lot more than that.

The Equality Act 2010, protects people from discrimination related to any protected characteristics, of which there are nine:

Age
Disability
Gender Reassignment
Marriage and Civil partnership
Pregnancy and maternity
Race
Religion and belief
Sex
Sexual orientation

We recruit people from all kinds of backgrounds and in turn this widens the range of thinking across the Company. When we bring together a group of people, we stimulate their creativity by allowing them to bring with them their own unique ideas. This helps us to retain our staff, flourish as an employer and keep pace with our competitors. Research has pointed out that by creating a Company culture where staff are inspired ad encouraged to express their own unique thoughts and ideas, it allows the Company to have a unique and diverse workforce. Having such a workforce, helps to us to better understand our customers’ needs and expectations. Having such a diverse workplace also allows us to breakdown language barriers. By recruiting across all ethnic backgrounds, we are able to provide our clients with a larger talent pool to use across their sites.

Please be aware that we have robust policies and procedures in place to ensure appropriate action is taken against those who do not wish to embrace Quality and Diversity. We will not allow anyone to suffer due to their individual, unique, characteristics.

We have e-learning courses to help understand what is right and what wrong, and what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. In you haven’t completed the course, and would like to enrolled on it, then please contact me and I will arrange this. We are also in the process of putting together external training to cover this important subject. Further details will be sent out once we have them.

Finally, should anyone have any concerns, around Equality and Diversity, please do not hesitate to contact me, either on my mobile, 07771532904 or via email, [email protected]

Kind regards,

Mick Stone

COVID 19 Advice from HR

The following advice has been taken from the Gov.UK website.

It is there as a reminder of what to look for an what to do.

Symptoms of coronavirus

If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), get a test as soon as possible. Stay at home until you get the result.

Main symptoms

The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)

a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.

What to do if you have symptoms

If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:

Get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible. This can be done via the NHS 111 online Coronavirus service.

You and anyone you live with should stay at home and not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.

Anyone in your support bubble should also stay at home if you have been in close contact with them since your symptoms started or during the 48 hours before they started.

We are seeing instances where employees are turning up for work if a partner has shown symptoms, or is awaiting a test result. It is important that you do not attend work until a negative test result has been received. Further guidance can be obtained from your Operations Manager or me.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Health & Safety – Near Miss Reporting

Near Misses

In keeping with our continual promotion of Health & Safety, this month we’re again reminding everyone about the importance of near miss reporting.

It is important to communicate not only our strengths, but also any perceived weaknesses on our client assignments.

Each site already has specially printed report cards to encourage easy reporting of near misses, to help achieve our goal of being totally incident and injury free. However, please feel free to report near misses in any way you can – verbal or email reports to your Operations Manager or our Control Centre are perfectly acceptable.

It’s important that you understand the following:

  • We will support any employee reporting a near miss; if a task is stopped for a safety reason, we will back the employee.
  • We will listen and act; any safety concern that is reported will be addressed promptly.
  • We will not point the finger; if there is an injury, we will conduct an incident investigation in such a way that no-one is blamed. We need to learn so that we can prevent future injuries.
  • We will allow time to do jobs safely; we will remove any barriers to employees being successful in safety.

You can print your own card by clicking here or report via our website .
